What is the Amir & Amiram Test?

The exams are made up of questions (each question has 4 options for answering) and reading passages only. They do not test other English skills such as speaking, listening and writing.

What are the primary differences between the Amir and Amiram Examinations?

Like the Amir test, the Amiram tests your English using multiple choice questions.  The Amiram test is accessed through a computer in various learning centers around the country and it is adaptable, While the Amir test is done on paper.

Where & When do I take the Exams?

The Amir test  is generally given four times a year at different points in the country (COVID-19 Restrictions are likely to alter this). The Amiram can be taken at your educational institution and is given according to available spaces at your institute (for more information  you should call your academic institution).

What is an Adaptive Test?

Because Amiram test is given through the computer, it is adaptive. This means that the test begins on a certain level and changes when you answer a question correctly or incorrectly. If you answer correctly, the level of difficulty will increase and if you answer incorrectly – the questions will be easier.

מכיוון שמבחן אמיר”ם ניתן באמצעות המחשב, הוא אדפטיבי. פירוש הדבר שהמבחן מתחיל ברמה מסוימת ומשתנה כאשר אתה עונה על שאלה בצורה נכונה או שגויה. אם תענה נכון, רמת הקושי תעלה ואם תענה לא נכון – השאלות יהיו קלות יותר.

How Many Questions are on Each Exam?

The Amir examination will usually consist of three sets of 22 questions and you will have 20 Minutes to Answer them. Because the Amiram test is adaptive, it will have about half the questions of the Amir examination. This is because the adaptive test can understand your level more easily. That’s why we can’t  know how many questions you will have in  Amiram, but the test will ask enough questions to know your level.

בחינת אמי”ר תורכב בדרך כלל משלוש קבוצות של 22 שאלות ויהיו לך 20 לך דקות לענות עליהן. מכיוון שמבחן אמיר”ם הוא אדפטיבי, יהיו בו כמחצית מכמות השאלות שבבחינת אמי”ר. הסיבה לכך היא שמבחן מותאם (אדפטיבי) יכול להבין את הרמה שלך הרבה יותר בקלות. בגלל זה אנחנו לא יכולים לדעת כמה שאלות יהיו לך באמיר”ם, אבל המבחן ישאל מספיק שאלות בשביל לדעת את הרמה שלך.

How Much Time do I have to answer each Question?

In Amiram test you have much more time to answer each question (2-4 minutes on average) than the Amir (About 1 minute on average). This doesn’t mean that the Amiram is easier because the questions will automatically get harder as the test goes on.

כמה זמן יש לי לענות על כל שאלה?

When do I see my results?

When taking the Amir test, it can take a month for the results to arrive. The results of the Amiram test come within a week and sometimes even on the same day.

How Does the Grading System Work and What Grade do I need to get an Exemption from English Classes?

In the Amir Examination, you are graded on a scale from 150-250 and on the Amiram you are graded on a scale from 50-150. These differences are only numerical and don’t matter to the test taker.

In order to get exemptions from some of your English classes, you will need to earn a 234 on the Amir examination or a 134 on the Amiram.

Sending the Grades to my Institution

If you take the Amir test,  your results will be automatically sent to your institution. In the case of the Amiram test, the grades are  kept by your learning institution and you will need to take the test individually for each institution you would like to be accepted to..
